Our guest blogger is Certificate in Law student Margaret Bailey, who shares her program experience and how the Certificate in Law program has helped her in her career. Working in Energy and Environment - Strategic Policy and Stakeholder Relations, she shares how Introduction to Canadian Law (Law 201) served as a springboard to demonstrate the interplay between law and policy.
The Queen's Certificate in Law offers a highly engaging and enriching program on the fundamentals of law in Canada. My main objective in enrolling in the Certificate in Law was to enhance my knowledge of law in Canada and expand my thinking about the interplay between the elements of law and policy. The Introduction to Canadian Law — Law 201— proved to be an excellent opening course to achieve this goal.
Topics for this course spanned Canada’s democracy and legal framework, the rule of law and its constitutional underpinnings, as well as numerous specialized areas of law.
Assignments were challenging, intriguing, and highly effective at conveying course content and achieving learning objectives. For example, students were tasked with arguing both for and against the constitutionality of a particular statute.
In another dynamic session, we worked in teams to decide a case through an International Criminal Court simulation. The online course was delivered to a high professional standard, complete with real time tutorials, engaging video lectures, constructive assessments, and enriching discussion boards.
Importantly, since the Queen’s Certificate in Law is available as an online program, it offers a highly flexible schedule and is accessible to a diverse student body with learners spanning Canada’s regions and demographics.
Through the course, I gained valuable knowledge of the various aspects of law that intersect with my field of work.
